The cartographers’s dilemma in a video
Water breakdown in our neighbourhood in Zürich Kreis 3 on Thursday evening at 20hrs. Definitely overcared citizens and no chance to enjoy the moment when neigbours started talking to each other. Prost!
This video extract is from Gair Dunlop’s film ATOMTOWN, in which footage of the closing ceremony of the Dounreay Materials Test Reactor (Scotland) in 1969 is paired with contemporary images. I am not the only one who missed the Red Road demolition.
Great talk of Ash Amin on the social life and sociality of urban infrastructure. Download his ‘Lively Infrastructure‘ paper in Theory, Culture & Society 31(7/8).
Voilà! The classic sociology book, vacuum-packed for sale at a kiosk in the city centre of Santiago de Chile. Max Weber’s Protestant Ethic and the Spirit of Capitalism was published in German in 1904/05. (Seen on 24.01.2015)
